Hi,

I'm very enthusiastic about Event Gallery. I use it for a new built photography website. However, I notice there is a quality loss if I compare the original photo with the one displayed in the gallery. Is there a way to improve the quality? I use the maximum quality setting (95%). Is there a way to set this to 100%?
I upload pictures which are 1024 x something pixels and 72 dpi.
I would really appreciate your help. My customer (photographer) strives for the best quality possible.
Thanks in advance.

Kind regards, Hans

What exactly is the problem? This has nothing to do with the jpeg image quality. Which php version do you use?

Hi Sven,

Thanks for your quick response. I use PHP 5.5.20 by the way.

The thing is my customer is a group of professional aviation photographers. You might want to have a look at www.airteamdutch.com. That's why they are experts on details and notice a quality difference between the original uploaded photo and the photo, displayed in the gallery. You have to believe me: if they don't point out the differences I can hardly see it myself, so no regular users. However, since this is their profession, they aim for the best (like you in creating this beautiful Event Gallery module). We tried using the sharpening option, but this doesn't improve the results. So can we increase the quality option to let's say 99% or is there maybe another way?
I really hope there is.
Thanks in advance.

Kind regards, Hans

Changing the quality between 90 and 100 will not result in any noticeable change. It'll just increase the file size. Especially with those low res images this makes no sense. Try a test: show the the same image with 90 and 95% image quality but label them the other way around.

If you start playing around with the sharping options as well as with every image quality option you should be aware of the way the gallery handles files: https://www.svenbluege.de/joomla-event-gallery/event-gallery-manual/intro-and-installation#things-you-should-know

Always clear both the server and the browser cache to see any differences.

Thanks for your info Sven. We will perform some tests after studying manual and settings advisory.

The most important setting is the sharping option. It'll oversharp images sometimes. Make sure to clear all caches to see a difference.

Thanks Sven. Do you perhaps also have some information, simular to Lightroom, about Photoshop JPEG Export Quality Settings?

I'm sorry but I have to send you over to Google for information like this.
