S3 is only file storage and offers no dynamic thumbnail creation. To show images on your website, you need to create all the necessary thumbnails. Use this command to find missing thumbnails in your S3 bucket and create them.
-
--calcthumbnails=true(or-c=true)Actually creates the thumbnails. As with the local thumbnail creator, this command does a dry run by default and writes nothing unless you pass this option.
-
--refreshetags=true(or-r=true)Reads the ETag data from S3 and writes it to the database, which avoids calculating the same thumbnails twice. Unlike the option above, this one defaults to
true. -
--folder=<folder name>(or-f <folder name>)Only processes the S3 event with this folder name. Repeat the option for several events. Without it the command walks through all S3 events, which on a large site means listing every folder of every bucket.
Example: php cli/joomla.php eventgallery:create-s3-thumbnails --calcthumbnails=true
Example for two events: php cli/joomla.php eventgallery:create-s3-thumbnails --calcthumbnails=true --folder=2026-05-20_birthday --folder=2026-06-01_wedding
