Im having a really hard time getting all the images to appear when doing either SINGLE or MULTI file uploads.
I get a white blank box both in the backend as well as the front
I have Cache turned OFF for this installatino of Joomla beause its still being build

The server is set to allow uploads of 50MB
Originally i thought this would be fine because my files are only about 2-6 MB each

But if i upload several files at once, i thought maybe the server is setting the accumulated MB of all the tiles per sessions so
i tried just doing 3 tiles at a time (16MB)

i still have the same problem
I have read through the tickets and all the problems that were mentioned dont apply to my installation

Not sure what to do

website address is http://cathyrosselli.com.s33727.gridserver.com
Gallery address is
http://cathyrosselli.com.s33727.gridserver.com/portfolio/theme-sessions

the one in question tonight is
http://cathyrosselli.com.s33727.gridserver.com/portfolio/theme-sessions/event/JillianandWillRocktheDress

but on the previous link you can see BLANK boxes which means the first image of each event is BLANK

HOwever in the back end, the MANAGE EVENTS page does show each event as well as how many IMAGES are in said event
But its only showing a few of the images even though it shows me a proper count of say 17 or more
 do i have to?
ok HI!!

Seems like no images where uploaded. You can check this in the file system. Are there files in /images/eventgallery/*?

Are there any error message during the upload? Please increase the Error Reporting level using the Joomla Global options.

In the meantime upload your images by FTP to /images/eventgallery/[FolderName] and hit the "Sync Database" button in the backend.

Please keep in mind that most servers can't process large images because they simply lack memory. But it seems to work at least for some images.

The last thing: your server throws a lot of HTTP 500 errors on a page like this: http://cathyrosselli.com.s33727.gridserver.com/portfolio/theme-sessions/event/CountryKids

Please check the error log for possible reasons. I expect issue due to the lack of memory here too.

According to your layout issues you want to have a look at this page: https://www.svenbluege.de/joomla-event-gallery/event-gallery-manual/faq-image-alignment

antifm
Layout issues? i never mentioned anything about Layout issues......Why do you bring that up sbluege?

2)
Yes i was uploading via FTP to the folder "/eventgallery/"
and then doing the SyncDatabase technique
The above problem was the result of doing it

So i then started using the UPLOAD FILES from inside the Events themselves
but i was getting the same results

I thought i found the problem, which was that the files were just too big from the client
Images were several MB in size and for example some of them were a dimension of
3,000+ wide by similar width

So i removed all files, reduced them to anywhere from 45% to 50% of original size

This brought them all down to an average of 1,000px - 1,500px wide by same or smaller height.

I just woke up now a few hours later and tried to SYNC the database wit the new files but yet again am finding the same issue
even AFTER i used the "Clear Cache" from the Event Gallery
 do i have to?
ok HI!!

antifm
i have no idea why this page
http://cathyrosselli.com.s33727.gridserver.com/portfolio/theme-sessions/event/CountryKids
would throw any 500 errors
i havent done anything to it and the ONLY plugins or modules installed are exactly the ones that came with this Joomla package
there are NO extras with the exception of Event Gallery

now i looke at the page you referanced
https://www.svenbluege.de/joomla-event-gallery/event-gallery-manual/faq-image-alignment

but the images you use as an example do not have any ZOOM function.
I cant zoom into that without it getting blurry.

Aside from that, is there a specific template "FILE" we should be looking at in the template folder to remove the !IMPORTANT" element?
 do i have to?
ok HI!!

antifm
could this be the problem?

"Error displaying the error page: Application Instantiation Error: Could not connect to MySQL."

whats this about?

Searching this implores that i did not set the following information correction in my configuration.php file

// database username goes here
public $user = 'database-username';
// database password goes here
public $password = 'database-password';
// database server name
public $host = 'localhost';

but thats not so beacuse it has to be correct. Otherwise i would not have been able to install the template or joomla fully
Also you have been to the website and you can see it. So, all the credentials are correct.
I didnt get this error until after installing Event Gallery so the problem is this component, not the template or the installation
 do i have to?
ok HI!!

sbluege
Please forget about the layout issue for now. I just mentioned it because I saw it.

Let's care about your webserver first. Can you check with your hosting provider to find out why your server is throwing http 500 errors? Sames goes for the random SQL connection issues. They should be able to see something in the log files.

antifm
ill let you know
but i have already setup with them the use of a specific SQL server just for my account.
Yes its shared hosting but i pay extra for the SQL to be more suited to just my usage
 do i have to?
ok HI!!

I just did a quick jMeter test. 10 parallel threads with 100 requests to the same image url resulted in about 23% error pages. Same is true for your homepage but with an error rate of 56%. Since every request to an image is a PHP request your server runs into trouble even if every request is very cheap. This is not even a problem on a shared host environment. But without the necessary configuration/resources you'll have no luck running this site with/without Event Gallery.

Have to excuse me my good man. Im a bit tired. Its been a 21 hour day and i only got about 3 hours of sleep.
What i get from that comment is that the problem actually ISNT the sql?
And instead its something in the installation thats calling the same image several times?

help me out here. I dont think im understanding you correctly.

Im not saying ur wrong. Im just not quite getting it
 do i have to?
ok HI!!

sbluege
So let my try it as simple as possible: Your server is not capable to run Joomla. It does not matter which component causes this. Might be a memory issue, can be a SQL connection issue too. If multiple request are fired against this server it crashed randomly.

You can move your images to Picasa to reduce the number of requests but this will not solve your issue which you already have with the simple homepage.

antifm
No wonder i didnt understand what you meant earlier LOL!
Well yes i do understand the errors being thrown by the Joomla installation but i have to say i cant believe your statement that the server will not handle a joomla website at all

This website http://antifmradio.com/

has been in operation for now 10 years (June 15th is anniversary)
And it uses 3 SQL databases to operate. its a music streaming website.
Its been on a Mediatemple server Since 2007 with no issues.
I have built 6 other Joomla websites on this same type of account for other people since 2009 again with no issues.
I talk to their tech dept quite often for other things and i can tell you, in the past i have found out,
that they host currently over 900 Joomla websites.

I can go on with more info about how their servers are handling Joomla installations but i really only have one question and one statement.

1) What is it that makes you think the server is not designed to run a Joomla website?

2) Please keep in mind that there were NO SQL connection issues happening until i tried using Event Gallery.
I tried a few others with no connection issues but these would not give me the results, or usage qualities that YOUR component does. I like it very much which is why i havent deleted it. But there again lies the information, of, no SQL issues until E-G installation.
I dont have Event Gallery installed on http://antifmradio.com/
and there are a few hundred connections to that site at any given time. Please note
BOTH websites are running on the SAME hosting account as i manage both
however they are only separated by the SQL DB they use
 do i have to?
ok HI!!

sbluege

Fact is we still see random http 500 errors, right? Just grab jmeter and fire some requests against your server. As I said I've got a lot of errors requesting your homepage.

Let's stop the discussion here since it seems to lead nowhere. You think it is the component, I proved it's the server. It can't handle parallel PHP requests very well. Please have a look in the server error log to see what is going on.

You can ease the pain by uploading your images to Picasa which should do the trick since it reduces the number of PHP-requests.

antifm
So its been a few months how and i have to say i am pretty well disappoined by this script.

The biggest issue it has is how it hadles CACHE of its own files, the images.

Im sorry but i have switched over to a different component and not only do the images load faster than those of the event gallery component (i can tell because i have both components displaying images on the same page,)
I can spend HOURS reloading the same page waiting for images to appear instead of a blank white box using Event Gallery

meanwhile

the other component, works right out of the gate.

I wish i could get my money back for this because it just doesnt do what i needed it to.
And the things is DOES do that i need, it just doesnt do them well at all.
 do i have to?
ok HI!!

sbluege
I'm very sorry to hear that. But isn't that exactly what I told you the day back? The server you're running is simply too weak.

Caching works like this: Call a PHP file, read a file from the hard drive, send it to the browser. Very simple, very cheap, usually fast and the only way to provide real adaptive images. If the server can't handle this, it's not the right one. Did you conciser switching your image to Google Picasa to reduce the server load?
