Hi Sven

I wish you a Happy New Year!

Is it an easy way to import data from an old Coppermine Gallery?

I currently have a personal website without a gallery and another Coppermine gallery website. I would like to have these galleries on my personal website and delete the Coppermine website.

In Coppermine albums folder on the ftp, I have 15 subfolders (some have their own subfolders).

Some years ago I hesitated to replace Coppermine with Event Gallery and copied 40 image folders to my personal website, without attempting to import them into a new installation of Event Gallery.

Thank you for your advice.

Kind regards,
Robert

Hi Robert,

I don't know this gallery. If you copy the folders (no subfolders supported, you need to move them all to the same root level!) to /images/eventgallery, you can use the "sync database" process to create events automatically. If you name the folders like 2026-12-31_my_description, you will have the date and the title in the Event prefilled. From there you need to manage some metadata if needed manually. Then publish the events and you're done.

Thank you, Sven!

Some folder are events, other locations. I had thought of "database sync", but I wasn't sure. I will try on a copy of my site.

Kind regards,

Robert

Well... that does not matter ;)

I call it "Event". But in the end it's just an album, a gallery or a bunch of pictures belonging together. Finally it boils down to a flat list of them just like Joomla articles. If you need a hierarchy, then categories come in handy.

Yes, Sven, I'm using Event Gallery on another website for events and locations, and I like very much your extension.

I synchronised 41 folders and 1647 files, with errors especially for caption (quite no data, null only) and sometimes title. It seems that the errors occurs when some characters are accentuated (like é or à) in the pictures data.

I need to find how to display old videos (mov, wmv...). My remote server has not ffmpeg, and WampServer, where I'm testing, no longer.

I will have to recreate categories and reclassify albums.

Thank you very much!

Using any non-standard characters in file names is never a good idea. Descriptions, titles or text in no problem. But when it comes to file names, only use the standard set of letters and numbers.

Video you could upload to Google Photos or better, Flickr Pro and serve them from there.

RG-Consultant

No, Sven, there are not the files names but data added in the pictures by Coppermine.

An example with the attached picture

This example image helps a lot!

This version fixes the issue with the IPTC data:

Thank you, Sven,

I will test asap.

I didn't find where and when the title were added in the files. I didn't see it in the Coppermine display.

And I will not display the videos.

sbluege
The data is somewhere in the IPTC data in the images. Event Gallery reads this and displays it as title/caption of the image.

The image was a scan of a slide with a Nikon scanner, then probably modified in Photoshop Elements, but I don't remember how the title was added in the IPTC data

That does not matter anymore. This title is no longer preventing the upload 🙂

It's OK now, for me!

Thank ypu very much, Sven!
