Hi Sven,

I was working with the issue regarding the thumbnails and found my solution to google photos.

Unfortunately, I discovered that clearing cache does nothing. Although it seems like the data is removed, if you reload everything appears untouched. I have to manually clear cache files on the server. I also tested removing cart data and the files at "Statistics" and they don't work as well.

how do you clear the cache?

Carts and the "files"-links in the statistic are unrelated to caching.

Hi,

I'm only clearing cache files in order to reload changes at events.

Carts and the "files" is still the same. For them I just noticed the buttons don't do anything.

Kostis, I'm confused. We're talking about the folder /cache/com_eventgallery-*, right? If you delete the files manually, the data will get reloaded from the Google servers.

Which issue do you try to solve?

Yes, you are correct.

My first problem appeared when I was checking the size of the thumbnails for storing the photos locally. I was uploading the same photo in different sizes and compressions, so I had to recreate the thumbnails because I was using the same name for the photo.

My second problem appeared when I loaded an album from google photos. After altering the cover photo in google photos album I had to clear the cache so that the event cover would be updated.

In both cases, clearing cache from the dedicated function did not work for both google photos cache and thumbnails.

I check google photos data, I press clear, I get the message "Clear cache complete", I reload the page and everything is as before. Currently, I don't have thumbs but the same happened for thumbs as well.

Sorry if I'm confusing you, I'm trying my best.

Those caches are two different things.

The thumbnail cache contains the calculated thumbnails in various sizes. If you delete them, your server needs to recreate them. But that only happens, if a browser requests those thumbnails. There is a second caching layer which lives in the browser. Just because you cleared the server cache does not mean you see new thumbnails. You need to clear the browser cache, too.

The Google Photos cache contains the JSON/XML responses from the Google Photos API. If you delete it, it'll be refilled once somebody tries to view some Google Photos events/albums on your page. If Google does not publish your changes fast enough, your changed cover images will not appear. You need to wait a little.

Both caches are deletable using the build in "clear cache"-feature or the Joomla cache manager. You mean the Event Gallery cache clearing does not work? Does the Joomla Cache Manager deletes the files?

I'm aware of the details you mentioned.

When I was checking the size of the thumbnails I didn't bother clearing browser cache because I was checking the size of the files themself. I was on a file manager level.

For the google photos cover change, I did clear browser as well.

Joomla cache manager works fine.
