Hi. I would like to know if it is possible to let users download an image at low resolution for free, and to make them buy the same image at high resolution, picking it from the same event collection. In the case, which settings are needed?

Thanks

Hi,
You can add two image types. A free one and the other. Use the size field for the image size. Or you can configure that the download button  does not use the original image. Instead a max 1600px image will be downloadable. You can waterworks it too.

ok. thanks!

A last question. Is it possible to change the max default value of 1600 px for the downloadable image? Thanks

sbluege
Which value do you have in mind? Increasing is easy. Decrease is harder. Here is 1440px the limit.

ita4012
A low value (e.g. 600 px). Anyway, I can arrange with the two image types system that you suggested. thanks

You could upload 600px images and the original files to the originals folder. But I think that 600px is too small for the web today. Please also keep in mind that people can always copy everything they see. So if the lightbox shows larger images, they already have the downloaded to their computer.

Hi. I reply to this ticket after a few days, since my last experience with selling pictures uploaded in an event is signficant....

I definitely experienced that people don't buy pictures if they have the chance to download a 1600 px image, in some ways!

So, if event gallery lets people see a 1600 px image on their pc screen, the part of the extension that lets people buy picture is almost useless.... Only people (few ones) unable to do a printscreen, or to perform a download...., buy pictures; or only those who want to print a big size copy of the picture on photographic paper will buy the picture. But most of the people simply want a low/medium resolution picture to share via social network..... or, at least, that's my expereince with windsurfing fans I picture in my photos....

So (consider it a sort of feature wishes....), I'd like that your extension could offer in the future one of these solutions:

1) To let people view only low size previews of pictures on their pc (thumbnails, more or less), and then to let them to buy full/medium size pictures if they want.

2) To let people view only low size previews of pictures on their pc, and then to let only some kind of users (with a paying account) to download/access full/medium size pictures if they want.

Regards

People are bad :(

But you can already do something about that.

- upload smaller images
- watermark them so people can't use them
- upload the original files to /images/eventgallery/[folder]/originals. The file names of the smaller and the larger files need to match.

Doing this will allow you to sell the original files and show small/watermarked files to clients

I am not sure to have understood.

Do I have to upload the smaller images in /images/eventgallery/[folder]/, and the originals in /images/eventgallery/[folder]/originals ?

In other words, originals must be in a subfolder called "originals", which is inside the folder that directly contains smaller pictures with the same names?

Thanks

sbluege
Yes. I created that option because usually, servers can't process the original images. If you want to sell them anyways, a workaround is necessary.

For the smaller images you can use the build in uploader. Just the original files need some manual work.

Would that work for you?

ita4012
Ok. I'll try, even if it would be nice something creating smaller size pictures authomatically. Thanks

sbluege
Well.. that is what Event Gallery is doing. it creates smaller pictures automatically. But in a way that they are too large for you :)

sbluege
Btw, would the use of watermarks solve your problem as well?

ita4012
Not completely, because people then cut the picture to eliminate the part containing the watermark with photoshop.... I could try to put the watermark in the middle of the picture with low opacity. I should work a little to have a right compromise between defending my copyright and having still a pleasant preview. I'll work on it too

ita4012
I have done some attempts. I think that for me having smaller size picture in a folder and full size picture in "originals" subfolder is the best solution, 'cause I have some free events with images that should be downlodable with watermark not in a nasty centered position, but in a corner. thanks

sbluege
If you need different watermarks per event, this is possible too. Just create multiple watermarks and assign one of them to each events.

Right! Nice idea!
