Hi Sven,

I am looking for some help in setting up PayPal on a new site I am launching this Tuesday. I have created a PayPal basic payment method with my client's email asociated with his PayPal account in the receiver field. A test checkout brings me to a PayPal login page. On his old (current) site the buyer clicks a PayPal "Add To Cart" button and is directed to a PayPal cart page. How can I get this same behavior?

Hi,

You can't. Event Gallery does not use the PayPal cart. Instead it manages the cart itself and let the user pay via PayPal after the order was submitted. Just like in the demo. Select => Order => Pay. You can try to get Braintree working so you can collect the payment information during the checkout. But with paypal basic you just get that blue pay-button after the checkout is completed.

Hi Sven,

Yes, after playing with it for a while I see how it works now. My browser autofill had me confused.

What's the deal with Braintree? Do they put an additional charge on top of the paypal processing charges? Sorry for the newbie questions; I've only previously handled transactions using Virtuemart and Stripe.

The Brainteee v.zero API is just the latest way to implement PayPal. They do not charge additional fees for Paypal transactions and you can collect credit card payments right away. The demo page https://www.svenbluege.de/demo shows this payment method too.
