The performance of EventGallery extended on my test server is just too high to make EventGallery usable for large numbers (>100) of Images (at 1920x1080 HD and 90% jpg). Perhaps this is due to your creation of thumbnails on the fly. The same list of images on Phoca loads at about 10x the speed.

Die Leistung von EvantGallery Extended ist mir zu langsam um das Produkt für mich brauchbar zu machen. Bei 100 Bilder mit einer Auflösung von 1920 x 1080 und 90% jpg Qualität, braucht mein Test-Server (Dell quad CPU) 100% CPU mehr als 20 sekunden um die Thumbnails "on the fly" zu erstellen. Phoca braucht dafür 2 Sekunden.

Now I understand all the reasons why the thumbnails are created on the fly, still, it makes the EventGallery unusable for my purposes.

Obwohl ich verstehe warum die Thumbnails beim Abruf immer neu erstellt werden, ist dadurch das Produkt für mich unbrauchbar.

Of cause thumbnails are only created if there do not already exist. If they exist the response is as fast as possible. There are issues with some slow hosting providers but usually there is no difference between accessing such a file directly or through the image.php script.

But: Event Gallery creates 13 different thumbnail sizes to be as adaptive as possible. That means that it needs some page views to create them all. Can you provide a link to your site please?

Please make sure you did not turned on the Fallback Render option. This will slow things massively down since it invokes the Joomla! framework for each images.

One addition: you're using Event Gallery 3.1.6 with Joomla 3.6.5? I'm pretty sure this does not work. Do you mind using the latest version (3.6.4)?

Solved the problem - Fallback Render - thanks for the tip.

Try www.advnet.de - menu German => Bilder => Fish River Canyon event => List if you like.

A question - the thumbnails also have a watermark(?), how can I switch it off so that only my large images have a watermark?

Since this is a public ticket: The render fallback is useful for the time where you or your hosting provider try to get the image.php script working. It is a very slow way to deliver images and only a temporary solution.

There is a threshold in the watermark configuration. Use it to define the minimum size of a thumbnail which will get a watermark. Make sure you clean both the server and the browser cache if you change those settings. Otherwise you'll not see them.
