Just saw the upgrade to 3.3.0 was available.
Downloaded the update and installed over 3.2.1. No errors reported on install.
However, when I went to configure the display option, there were two instance of eventgallery in the manage list.
Went to Extension Manager and then Manage. Searched for "event" and saw that there were two components listed for eventgallery, both 3.2.1 and 3.3.0.
I uninstalled 3.2.1 with no errors. All other items listed showed 3.3.0 version.
Now event gallery is missing from component list. I upload 3.3.0 (again with no errors) and it reappears in the component list.
Now I get this when I select it:
Table '561773_tristate.dhwz_eventgallery_folder' doesn't exist SQL=SELECT count(1) FROM dhwz_eventgallery_folder
Appears to be some issue with the database. I have close to 40 events, in two categories, that are Picasa imports and I do not want to have to recreate each event,or I would just uninstall everything and start clean,
What seem strange now is that all of the "parts" all show version 3.3.0.
Help?

In this case I have only bad news for you. You uninstalled the component which removed the tables from the database. Your data can only be restored from a backup. I don't know where those different versions came from.  Maybe you installed the free version before?

To fix this I recommend to uninstall the package (not the single items), install it again and restore the tables from a backup.

I have just another question for you. Did you saw two different versions of a component? There are many extension types. Are you sure this was a component? Since the main component is the same for all versions I can only imagine strange things happend in the joomla installer.

CyberSpyder
There were two different versions of the same eventgallery component after the upload of the new version. There were both 3.2.1 and the new 3.3.0 when viewed from the Extensions Manager and searching by "event". Plus, when configuring the display options, by clicking on options from inside the component, there were two eventgallery items on the left hand side, both highlighted at the same time. There was an issue somewhere, or there would not have been two entries for the same object, and both highlighted at the same time.

ALSO: By the actions described in the previous post on this ticket, almost every single link on the site became broken. All of them showing an error related to eventgallery when clicking on them. I really do not know why eventgallery would break an entire site, link wise.

By removing all instances of eventgallery from the extension manager, the site links work again.

Since my galleries were Picasa imports, I am going to reinstall the new package and start from scratch.

There is an issue somewhere, with the upgrade process. At least there was when I first went form the free version, a year or so ago, and now with the 3.2.1 to 3.3.0 upgrade, as both times I have had issues.

You have a great product and I am glad that I found it. I am not even utilizing it for its full potential at this point. I am only using it as a photo gallery.

But. there does seem to be an issue, as I should not have two versions of the same eventgallery component installed after the upgrade, correct?

The links to a component get cleaned up if you uninstall a component automatically. You need to open each menu item and hit the save button to refresh it.

I guess your Joomla installation behaves strange. The #__extension table should contain exactly one entry for the element com_eventgallery. In your case the installer created two of them. This can't happen by installing the free version or anything else since both are using the same main component which results in one entry. So I suspect the Joomla installer here. Nobody reported such an issue before. If you still have a backup of your site I would be curious to know the content of this table.

CyberSpyder
I also suspect the joomla installer, in this case. If you will look back, we had an issue with the migration from the free version a year or so ago. This is possibly still a result from then that compounded itself. If i remember correctly, there was an issue and you did something to fix it, i believe from access to the database.

I do not have a recent backup of this site as we have ben upgrading the template and design over the last few weeks.

Why would uninstalling a duplicate (older version) of a component break ALL of the links on the site, not just event gallery links?

sbluege
Uninstalling a component will only break links to this component. Nothing else should be involved. Since there should never be two entries for one component uninstalling on or the other will remove the same component and therefore effect the same links.

CyberSpyder
I agree. But after installing the upgrade, for some reason, the old component (3.2.1) was left behind, as well as the new component (3.3.0)
This DID break all links, even those not related to eventgalery, on my site. After uninstalling every piece/trace of eventgallery, all of the previously working links, returned to working again.

This may be a one-off scenario but it may have happened because of the previous problem a year or so ago.

As I said, this is a great product and would, and do, recommend it to others all of the time.

I will be working in the next 24 hours on setting up the Picasa imports (events) and getting the display options set up again. If i run into any other issues, I will add them to this ticket.

Thanks Sven.
