By default, Event Gallery renders local images on demand. It uses a script image.php to create requested thumbnails before serving subsequent requests from the cache. On some servers, security configurations block the execution of image.php.
Pre-rendered images will decrease your server load, increase the loading speed, and might improve the SEO-ability of your images. Since all the thumbnails get created from the start, this approach will require more disk space in the beginning. Over time, it’ll equal out with the on-demand approach. The upload of new images will take longer since the server needs to calculate all thumbnails. Still, this approach is now recommended.
You can switch from on-demand rendering to pre-rendering by following these steps:

Configure the usage of pre-rendered images:
- Open Event Gallery Options.
- Switch to the Images tab.
- Turn on Use precalculated thumbs for local images.

Use the Thumbnail Generator to create missing thumbnails for all previously uploaded images:
- Open the Event Gallery overview page.
- Click the Thumbnail Generator button in the top menu bar.
- Select all events, search for missing thumbnails, and generate them.

Only for Event Gallery older than 6.0.0:
Delete the
.htaccessfile in/images/eventgallery_generatedto allow direct access to the thumbnail files.
For new uploads, thumbnails are now generated automatically—no further manual steps are needed.
