Hi,
I've several of my galleries protected by the password feature provided by "Eventgallery". This works basically, but I've encountering the following problem:

When I first open the gallery, the password is prompted. Access is granted if the correct password is entered, otherwise denied. If I re-open the same event again, no password is prompted anymore. So far, so good.
But if I open the same event on another computer within a short time (where short is meaning around 1-10 minutes), the password is not prompted either. I'm making sure, that the external IP address and MAC address is different (for example by using a mobile, connected per LTE or using my computer at work).

This is a problem, because if many users are trying to view the event at the same time, some of them will get access to images of events, where they might have no access rights.

Thank you,

sbluege
Do you have any kind of caching active? Especially the Page Cache plugin needs to be turned off.

Harrywa
Hi, thank you for the response.

Do you speak about global cache settings of the website (Joomla) or are there individual cache settings of the "Eventgallery component". I don't think, that I've changed something here away from the defaults, but who knows. Here are the settings I've found: see screens.

It is indeed possible, that something with caching is wrong, because it sometimes takes me a few tries to get a gallery working (all images are displayed empty in overview and "This image failed to load." in zoom-mode). But this is another issue, not related to the password-issue, where this ticket is intended for.

Thank you,

sbluege
Your screenshot does not show if the cache plugin is enabled. Is it enabled?

Harrywa
Oh, I'm so sorry. I've thought, the "use Browser caching" was the interesting setting, but you are interested in the status of the plugin itself, of course. See screenshot, it is enabled.

When disabling it... can we expect a decrease in the overall performance of the site? Thank you.

sbluege
Disabling caching will decrease the page performance in most cases. But you have not other choices. The Page Cache plugin caches stupid by URL. That is bad for every URL which delivers content not only based on the URL query information.

But you still have the more intelligent Joomla cache enabled too. That will cover a lot.

Harrywa
OK, thank you. I'll give it a try and I'm going to post my results here.

Harrywa
Ok, switching the plugin off did the thing. Passwords are prompted as expected when the site is opened on different devices. At the moment I don't feel a lot of decrease in performance, but I didn't deep-tested it yet.... But this is another topic.

Thank you for the support, Sven. Closed.
