Dear Sven,

I installed the Event Gallery (Free version) on my website (www.richards-fotos.nl/joomla). I have no problem with creating categories, events, etc. All that works fine, so compliments on that!
However, if I want toe view the images in the events I created, the layout is distorted as you can see in this link for example; http://www.richards-fotos.nl/joomla/over-richard/event/sanfrancisco2005

When clicking on an image, it opens the image in a new page, but no exif or whatsoever. I am probably doing something wrong, but I have no idea what. Can you please help?

Your site contains a JavaScript error. Please fix this one first. It's unrelated to Event Gallery and happens even on the homepage but it prevents Event Gallery from working correctly.

Update your template. It includes MooTools. That's something you should not do while using Joomla, especially not with such an old version. It also includes a script.js which contains a very old version of SqueezeBox. Remove it or replace it with a version which works with MooTools 1.4.5.

After removing references to SqueezeBox, the mooTool.js and script.js include the site works for me.
