Can I insert a single article photo from gallery?

The syntax is not suitable:
{eventgallery event="foo" max_images=1 mode=imagelist}

You need to insert a specific photo from the gallery

You can use the image directly. It's in the Joomla image folder so you can access it from the editor.

That's the issue with the tag you posted?
