Morning Sven

Not a problem as such, just a question about tags, metatags and basically making sure every image get's picked up in a search. Basically, I am trying to understand how to optimise the search capability of Joomla with regards to images held in Flickr albums but displayed within Event Gallery. I posted as a public ticket as I thought the answers would be helpful to other users.

In Flickr, every image can have tags etc applied. Does adding these tags have any effect or relevance in Event Gallery when searching etc?

In Event Gallery, we can add tags and meta information to every album, whether created from local images or imported from Flickr etc. Are these indexed in search?

I have noticed that adding tags to the description of the album does help with indexing the album. It looks a little messy if you have loads of tags and I'm wondering if there is a better way.

Finally, do you recommend any particular joomla search component / module which in your opinion works better than others? That would be helpful to know.

Kind regards

Dave

Besides the filename, only the image description is pulled from Flickr.

By default, the search with com_search and com_finder (Smart Search) will cover categories, tags and events. In the latest version of Event Gallery Extended, you'll find a new plugin for com_search which allows searching for files, too. This plugin is inactive by default. If you modify the template of com_search, you could even make thumbnails visible. Since this is a core modification, I do not really support it. I would love to see native Joomla support for showing thumbnails in the search result.

I can't recommend any search component. The build in one is not too bad.

Yeh, I'm not sure that the tags associated with the events are working properly in search.

For example, I set an "Exmouth" tag on one event and while a search found it, when I clicked on it didn't open the event as expected - see images.

I don't know what search term you used. Try people, or people walking - you'll see results mentioned but clicking them doesn't take you to an album of photos.

I just opened the tags component and clicked through some tags: https://www.pixtures.co.uk/index.php/component/tags

Are you sure, the "people"-Tag is assigned to an event?

HI Sven

Yes, you can see the tag(s) for "people" and "people walking" in the attached tag list for one of my events.

As you can see, when you run a general search, or use your tag search tool, they just don't show. Also, in the general search, some results based on tags don't have proper links or even a description of where the tag is located.

I'm sure there's a problem somewhere, I just don't know where!

Best Dave

Hi Sven

I think the problem is related to time. It seems that it takes time for the tags to become indexed. Earlier I searched for umbrella, people, people walking etc and none of these tags worked. Now they all seem to work. Is that possible? If it is just a matter of being patient then the problem is solved.

The only other issue related to search are the empty tags - see attachment - which have no relevance in the search results. Some advice on this would be welcome.

Regards

Dave

Did you have any comments above Sven?

Sure. This is something Joomla is causing. At least half. Instead of running content plugins over the text, they try to highlight the search word. The title looks like this:

Input {"GB":"foo", "DE":"bar"}

After the processing, you get this:
Output ""

This finally leads to the result you're seeing :(

So nothing can be done? It must be affecting everyone using Event Gallery I would assume.

I see 2.5 options:

1. You could disable the appearance of tagged items.
2. You can do a core modification. (see screenshot, com_search/view.html.php) or remove the highlighting.
