 Hi good day.

I tried to upgrade to the Extended Event Gallery (ie. the paid version) and got an error on the backend (see attached), also an error on the home page (http://icandycarnival.com/).

Please help as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You try to install Event Gallery 3.7 on Joomla 2.5? This is a very bad idea. Event Gallery 3.7 works with Joomla 3.6 and Joomla 3.7 but not with older and insecure versions. Joomla 2.5 is unsupported since a long time now.

To fix this mess I suggest to use a database backup.

jestrado
Hi thank you for your reply.

How do I go about this database backup?

sbluege
I'm sorry for your trouble. You need to do something like this:

Restore Database:
- get the database backup from your hosting provider. The usually have some kind of manual for this
- grab all tables with the name like *_eventgallery_* from the backup
- drop those tables from your database and import them again from the backup. If it is easier restore the whole database. If your don't collect data with your site that is a good way to go.

Restore File System
- install your old version of Event Gallery 3.3.3 again or restore your site from the file backup.

WOW... I'm not so familiar with this and the last thing I want to do is mess it up more. The Server side support rep should be able assist, I hope :(

Thank you for the guidelines. I really appreciate it.

If I download the folder with all the images and just remove the event gallery component after- will that work?

sbluege
I assume there is a backup both for database and file system. The best way is still to recover the site from a backup.

You can try to uninstall the Event Gallery package and reinstall Event Gallery 3.3. This will clean the database and you'll lose all meta data. But if you run the "Sync Database" process you'll get all the images back. This might result in a working system.

jestrado
so then there is no need to download the images via ftp from the server, then re-upload after I remove the event gallery & add it back?

sbluege
No, you don't need to do this. The uninstall process does only remove the code and database content. It'll leave the images on the harddrive.

jestrado
ok great. I will try this. I hope it works.

Thanks very much for all your help and prompt responses.

sbluege
You're welcome. Please let me know how that went.

I'll late over here so I guess this is my last answer for today.

jestrado
Ok i will let you know. thanks again

jestrado
got the attached error, but at lease the website pages load with the exception of those with the gallery....

The uninstall method is optimized for Joomla 3 as well so those messages are kind of expected.

Seems like you were able to install Event Gallery 3.3 again. Did you had a chance to click that "Sync Database" button?

jestrado
Hi Yes. I clicked sync database, added back all the categories. IT seems fine now.

But I really want to use the paid version I have. Once I upgrade to Joomla 3, only then will it be a smooth install of event gallery right?

sbluege
I don't expect trouble if you're on Joomla 3.7.
